WELCOME TO 18 Holes OF
Santana Golf & Country Club is located a bit away from the Mediterranean coast, between Mijas as well as Fuengirola. The property is surrounded by 140 acres of avocados and oranges groves – a part of the land was an avocado plantation – and with the backdrop of the magnificent Mijas Mountains, Santana really is an amazing natural beauty.
The course was designed by Cabell B. Robinson, and opened in the middle of 2004, it’s taken about a year to Santana to be recognized as one of Costa del Sol’s top courses. It measures just over 6,200 meters from the back tees Santana isn’t one of the longest courses in the region but it’s also a very dangerous layout, particularly if you encounter a problem with one of the numerous avocado pear trees that are a common sight along fairways.
The layout is clever and the bunkering stunning with a brilliant white marble-like sand. The greens in the deep are incredibly challenging, they are also oddly shaped, and none could even be called flat. Include the odd water carry and breathtaking tee to green conditioning and you’ve got the recipe for perfection that is apparent throughout Santana Golf and Country Club.
The gentle rolling former farmland is ideal for walking, a far cry from one or two other noteworthy courses within the area, such as like La Cala. It is certain that Santana is developing rapidly to become one of Robinson’s top designs and will soon be placed at the top of the list for everyone’s must-plays. Keep an eye out for the odd Calzada Eagle that can be seen flying in those warm Spanish thermals. We’re sure you won’t find any on this hole since you’ll have a hard time keeping your eyes off this stunning long par five, with its deep bunkering, ball gushing streams and a sloping green that is treacherous. The 4th hole may be one of the top and most challenging par fives in Spain.
